Initial Idea
We were tasked with making a design to put of some article of clothing which has at least four different colors. I decided to look up some clip art from the Legend of Zelda franchise. I ended up choosing a simple shield design with a sword through it. Not too hard, just some re coloring.
Only issue was that, I wasn't able to find any grey in the innovation center. So I hoped on amazon and ordered two different shades of grey, I was going to have the shield and the sword in two different colors. Just had to wait a couple of days for the vinyl to arrive, and I would be very close to done with my shirt. Only problem is, the vinyl was pushed back a week and I never got it until about 9 days later. Before then I had cut out my other colors of red, yellow and blue, but I still needed a grey for me to have 4 different colors. Eventually I got the vinyl, but I never got a chance to cut it because other people were using the vinyl cutter. That was how it was until the finals and everybody went home. However, I and some other students stuck around and used the vinyl cutter to get our heat press assignments done.
It was during this time that I realized one of my grey vinyls wasn't the proper type of vinyl for what we were doing. This was a surprise, but after re checking the amazon page, it was normal vinyl. So I was down to one roll of grey, but it would still work and I could still finish the assignment. After this revelation, I added all the colors I had to far to my shirt, then when I got back on the vinyl cutter, I cut the last piece. Then I put this final piece with the rest fitting the actual design quite well if I do say so myself.
What this entire process has taught me is time management. I know that there were some things I couldn't control, but there were just times when I could have done some cutting, but didn't and prioritized things like this website or Arduino which I could do at home. It ended well, but I was a little too close to not being able to do the full design, and that freaked me out a little bit. Who would have thought that a project involving the use of an overly complicated (not even that complicated) iron would be able to further teach me the importance of time. Summer is coming up, and now I have a cool custom shirt to wear in which I won't burn alive.
